Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre launch its official fundraising campaign #TheBigMove

Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre (CRMC) has launched its official fundraising campaign ‘#TheBigMove’ to support its relocation to Norton House in Hillfields.

The charity is aiming to raise £60,000 by the end of the year to aid the move, so that it can continue to help refugees. It has now setup a JustGiving page where anyone can donate, or setup their own sponsored activity to help with the fundraising.

To ensure it can continue to do this in the future, it is moving its centre location back to its roots in Hillfields. The relocation is due to be completed later this year, but currently the property is very run down and requires extensive structural repairs to make it usable.

This is where it urgently requires the public’s help. Sabir Zazai, Chief Executive at CRMC said: “We urgently require support to finance our move to Norton House in Hillfields, so that we can continue to help vulnerable refugees in the city that have fled war, torture and persecution, rebuild their lives in peace and dignity.

“However, this is about more than just moving offices. Our vision is for a centre which is a representation of Coventry, offering a welcoming, friendly home for all of the general public.

CRMC aims to help all newly arrived people to rebuild their lives, supporting their integration into the city’s local communities and encouraging them to contribute fully to the life of Coventry; all while in safety and with dignity. It does this through providing a variety of services to the newly arrived, ranging from therapy and employment advice, to English classes and housing support for the destitute.

Sabir said “Simple ways in which you can help raise money for this move include a sponsored car wash, a bake sale, a fancy dress day at work or a sponsored sporting activity.

“Any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated and directly help support those that most need it in our city.”
